Mixed results

It wasn't to be in the Davis Cup despite the sterling efforts of Andy and Jamie Murray (and their supporters from Stirling University) to win the doubles and reverse singles to level the tie.

But congratulations to Juan Martin del Potro who got revenge for Rio by beating Andy in five scintillating sets on Friday and remains on course to become a record-breaker himself.  This will be the fifth time Argentina have made it to the Davis Cup finals but they've never won.

And well done too to the GB team.  Making it to the Davis Cup semi-final is still a magnificent achievement.

We had better results in Rio. Huge paws up to GB's record-breaking Paralympians - 64 Gold medals and 147 in total. Wow.

The Paralympics came to an end yesterday along with the Davis Cup so I won't be able to cheer on GB for a while now but, instead of feeling blue, I've got lots of wonderful memories to look back on from what's been a wonderful #summerofsport.

Summer of Sport continues (even though it's officially Autumn) ...

Paralympics GB continue to produce marvellous results in Rio though it wasn't quite to be for Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewitt. They won silver in the Wheelchair Tennis doubles (after winning Wimbledon earlier this year) but one of them will win Gold and the other Silver when they face each other in the Wheelchair Tennis singles match later today. That means GB are on course to win 50 Gold medals and the games aren't even over yet!

And, as if that wasn't exciting enough, the Davis Cup starts today - with a repeat of the Olympic final: Andy Murray versus Juan-Martin Del Potro.

Reasons to celebrate

I'm celebrating more success in the Paralympics today with Golds in track and field and table tennis and must give a big shout out to Will Bayley, a local lad, who also won Gold in the table tennis yesterday. Go Team GB.

What could be more appropriate on International Chocolate Day?

She did it!

Huge congratulations to Angelique Kerber on winning her second Grand Slam title of 2016.

Guess who also won their second Grand Slam title of the year yesterday? Jamie Murray with his doubles partner Bruno Soares. Hurrah!

Mo Farah has broken another record with his third successive win at the Great North Run and GB's Paralympians in Rio continue to win medals, including three Golds in the rowing today.

Massive paws up to them all.

Our second attempt at a Mobot (see Barnaby's post from 21 August).

Otherwise Barnaby and I are giving each other a high five and Morris in jumping for joy :-)

Tennis World Number 1

If you've followed any of my earlier posts you'll know I'm a huge fan of Angelique Kerber so I'm thrilled that when the new rankings list comes out on Monday she'll be No. 1.

In the meantime I'll be cheering her on in the #USOpen final against Karolina Pliskova who was runner-up at Eastbourne earlier this year.

I'll also be cheering Jamie Murray, who has made it the Men's Doubles Final at Flushing Meadows for the second year in a row.

All this and our GB athletes continue to do brilliantly in Rio at the Paralympics.  Well done Sarah Storey for her record-breaking twelfth win.

Best of Both Worlds

Well I managed to have the best of both worlds as BBC Radio Five Live were broadcasting from the US Open and the Paralympic Opening Ceremony.  As soon as Murray's match finished I turned over to the coverage on Channel 4 in good time to see Team GB.

It was a shame Andy Murray lost but hopefully that means he'll have a few days rest and be refreshed ready to play in the Davis Cup semi-final against Argentina from 16 to 18 September.

Twenty-four hours till the Paralympics Opening Ceremony …

The US Open hasn't even finished yet and the Paralympics start tomorrow :-)

I’m hoping coverage of the opening ceremony doesn’t clash with Andy Murray’s quarter-final against Kei Nishikori so I can follow both :-).

It’s great equestrian Lee Pearson will be carrying GB’s flag and I’m looking forward to cheering Ellie Simmonds in the pool and Hannah Cockcroft, Jonnie Peacock and David Weir on the track #summerofsport.

Do you remember seeing the Paralympic symbol suspended from Tower Bridge during London 2012? What a fabulous idea that was!
